WINZES

WINZES
  1. ·         Winze is down ward drivage from upper level to lower level
  2. ·         This is a connection from upper level to lower level
  3. ·         Winze driving is difficult
  4. ·         Costly
  5. ·         Slow process
  6. ·         Small size drivage
  7. ·         In good ground no supports are required for winzes
  8. ·         In weak strata supports are required in week strata
  9. ·         Steep dips track is laid by blasting the floor
  10. ·         Raise winzes connections are carried away in same time to complete the excavation as soon as possible
  11. ·         Distance apart between raise winze connections are 25 to 30 m
  12. ·         Method of stoping
  13. ·         Uniformity of value of ore
  14. ·         For regular values these are placed 100-200m
  15. ·         For irregular value of ores /higher grade ores raise-winze connections are placed at shorter distances of 20-30m

PURPOSE OF WINZES
  1. ·         USED FOR
  2. ·         Sampling
  3. ·         Access
  4. ·         Ventilation
  5. ·         Lighting
  6. ·         Drainage
  7. ·         Exaction of ore
  8. ·         Stoping
  9. ·         Used for intake and return air ways
  10. ·         Travelling roads
  11. ·         Haulage roads
  12. ·         Material supply
  13. ·         Raising out puts

MERITS OF WINZES:
  1. ·         Drilling is easy
  2. ·         Drilling efficiency increases

DE-MERITS OF WINZES:
  1. ·         more holes are required for blasting
  2. ·         Gravity not assist for breaking
  3. ·         Water accumulate
  4. ·         Rate of advancement of face is slow
  5. ·         Face is not readily available for blasting
  6. ·         Inspection of face is difficult
  7. ·         Misfires are not easily detected
  8. ·         Poor efficiency of blasting occurs
  9. ·         Pumps are required
  10. ·         Face will not  be cleaner
  11. ·         Driving is difficult
  12. ·         Loading is difficult
  13. ·         Poor ventilation
