Methods employed for drilling
The methods used are;
1. Percussive drilling,
2. Rotary drilling
The percussive method is further sub-divided as:
(a) Drilling by rigid rods.
(b) Rope drilling, also known as cable drilling or churn drilling.
The rotary method may be used with a view to get a core of the rocks passed through, or simply to drill a hole, and this decides the type of drilling tool used. The rotary method is subdivided as:
(a) Drilling by saw toothed, cutter.
(b) Drilling by tricone rock roller bit.
(c) Drilling by diamond drill bit.
(d) Drilling by chilled shots.
